Creation Mobile
Supplies Needed:
- For group (for the children to share)
- Glue sticks
- Markers
Instructions:
- Each child A dessert bowl, with 7
holes punched around the rim and the Gen1:1
verse glued on top. The holes are numbered
1-7.
- A ziplock bag containing 7 shapes (each
shape is a symbol for a day in the creation),
each with a string attached to it, some cotton
wool and a piece of ribbon, and 2 wiggley
eyes
- Explain the craft day by day. During the
time the kids make their mobiles, talk again
about how God made everything around us, and
what he made on each day.
- Because of limited resources, all the kids
will not be able to do every day's symbol
together, so have some work on glueing, while
others draw, and then switch glues and markers,
etc.
- Do everything on both sides of the
symbol
Day 1 (Night and day)
Children glue the black triangle onto the white
square, diagonally, so that they end up with a
white triangle and a black triangle. (Do not glue
the black triangle over the punched hole in the
white square)
Day 2 (Sky)
Seperate the cotton ball into 2 pieces. Glue
some cotton wool on each side of the blue cloud
Day 3 (Land and sea, Plants and fruit
trees)
Draw some fruit on the tree - mangoes, bananas
and papayas are fruits known to the children (they
may not be familiar with apples)
Day 4 (Sun, moon and stars)
Color the stamped moon and sun square
Day 5 (Living creatures)
Give the fish a face, and decorate the body a
little - maybe draw in fins and do something with
the tail. Glue eye on each side
Day 6 (Man)
Give the little person a face and draw some
clothes on him/her
Day 7 (Rest)
Have the children write the word "Kupumula"
(meaning "to rest" in Chichewa) on the heart
Conclusion:
- Then tie each symbol to the mobile in the
correct day order, corrosponding with the
numbers written on the dessert bowl.
- Lastly, tie the ribbon to the top of the
bowl so the mobile can hang, to complete this
work of art. Voila!!
