Trip Devotions
This guide is meant to give helpful passages regarding
servanthood and some of the topics that short term mission
groups will typically encounter. Please use this as a
resource to help you in planning your devotions with the
group. The following verses may be accessed directly in the
New International Version. If you prefer to look them up in
a different version or another language you may do so by
going to the Bible
Gateway.
Day 1: Ephesians
4: 1-6 Living with each
other
It is not easy to live with many different personalities in
unusual circumstances for a week. How can we work together
as a team? Protect relationships- be encouragers. One of our
biggest witnesses is how we live with each other.
Day 2: Matthew
14: 22-34 (Concentrate on
22-24 today) Facing Difficult Circumstances
Difficulty is going to occur- different language, different
culture, different food, different personalities. Expect it
and grow from it (James 1:2-4)
Day 3: Matthew
14: 22-34 (Concentrate on
25-27 today) What are your Fears?
What are some of your expectations and fears for this trip?
We can take courage that we are walking through this with
Christ at our side. "Take Courage! It is I. Don't be
afraid!"
Day 4: Matthew
14: 22-34 (Concentrate on
27-31 today) Taking a Risk
What are some risks you can take while on the trip? When you
go home? Remember that Christ is reaching out his hand and
asking us to come join him. What a wonderful experience.
Think of what the other disciples missed out on.
Day 5: Matthew
14: 22-34 (Concentrate on 32
today) God is in Control
He is the Son of God. He controls the wind and waves. We can
put our trust and confidence in him as provider and
strength.
Day 6: Matthew
8:1-13 Touching the
Untouchables
It is easy to care for the lovable. What about the
unlovable, untouchables? Who are the people whom are most
difficult for you to reach out and love? Remember that for
many we are the only physical manifestation of Christ that
some people will ever meet.
Day 7: Debriefing John
15: 9-17 Love one
Another
Stepping from a servant to a friend. A true friend is one
who goes beyond serving to knowing a person, their needs,
and how they can help. We have had a great opportunity to
reach out and share with others- sometimes it is easier with
those you don't know. Now, what about those we do know? How
do we become "friends" to those at home?
