This fundraiser can be a fantastic one if everyone involved is willing to spend a little time and effort in gathering support. There are actually four documents that are being sent to you not including this instruction sheet. The first is a timeline for preparing and completing all of the things that will help it to run smoothly and with the most potential to raise lots of support. Ideally you want to allow people to get sponsorships over the course of about 2 months before the service date but this is not absolutely necessary. The second document is a flyer that can be handed out to people that you go door to door to get sponsorship from. Make sure that you change the underlined sections of both pages in this document and undo the underlines so it reflects your group and the projects you are doing. The third document is for use in the church bulletin. It also requires that you change the underlined sections. Put them in the bulletin and have an announcement about the upcoming projects (Ideally let them think about it for a week or two before you collect them). The fourth document is a sponsorship sheet. Have each participant take several of these, place their name at the very top and then get sponsors to fill in on one of the lines. Hints when going door to door: Bring something solid to write on (e.g. a clipboard or a pad) and writing utensils Give an example of how much it would cost them to sponsor (·in other words if you sponsor our group for $2 per hour you would pay $16 when we send you a letter). Probably using $1 to $2 as your example is good. Start with $2 and if people are not responding to this suggestion then use $1 as your example. People tend to go with whatever your example is. Be kind and courteous- some may not want to open the door or may even get angry at solicitation. Thank them for their time. Keep track of where you have gone so you don't accidentally go to the same places multiple times. Enter the addresses, amounts, and names in a database as soon as you can so that it does not build up.
